I was asked to re-paint this very well made kitchen in Grantham Lincolnshire. Although the kitchen had stood up well to daily usage it was looking slightly tired especially towards the bottom of the units.
After protecting all the work surfaces and floors I went to work on degreasing the units using Fluxaf power clean. This ready mixed product really cuts through the grease and grime.
The units were then rinsed down with clean water and left to thoroughly dry before every inch was sanded down using my Festool RTS dust free sander.
The units were then given another wash down to get rid of any remaining residue.
Once thoroughly dried I got to work on painting the kitchen. My first coat was Tikkurila Akva which is a water based adhesion primer, I had this mixed to a colour that was very similar to Farrow and Ball Old white.
The kitchen was to be finished in an eggshell so I used Tikkurila Helmi 10 which is a very hard wearing paint that is specifically designed for Kitchens and furniture and gives a really nice durable eggshell look and feel.
After the first coat of Helmi the kitchen was carefully sanded with 320 grade finishing paper and tack ragged before receiving a final coat of Helmi.
All wooden tops and sills were also sanded and washed and these were finished with two coats of Osmo Polyx oil.
All handles and catches were given a good wash before reinstating. After all protection was removed the work tops were given a good wipe down and polish as was the floor.
